Sonic sent me a gift card last month so that my friends and I could go celebrate National Ice Cream month at a Sonic Drive In. You can win your own ice cream social too!  Just leave a comment on this post with your favorite malt or milkshake flavor and in a week I’ll randomly select a winner.

Now onto the Review

Sonic Ice Cream Review

It’s been awhile since I’ve been to Sonic. When I used to live in Texas we would visit Sonic fairly frequently for a burger and a Limeade. On a hot summer day in Texas not much tasted better than a frozen drink.

Visiting Sonic this time for an ice cream social it was hard to decide what to get. I was hoping that they would have a peach malt flavor — my very first Sonic was on a road trip down to Mexico and we stopped at Sonic and had these amazing Peach shakes. But this time of year the special ice cream flavor wasn’t peach, but in fact S’More.

That’s right, they have a new Sonic S’More Campfire Blast. Of course I had to try one of these.  Here are my thoughts:

First of all – it’s huge. There is more than enough ice cream in this for two regular people (or one ice cream lover.) There are little chocolate covered marshmallows throughout the ice cream which are quite tasty. It always bugs me when ice cream shops don’t blend enough topping in – and Sonic put in just the right amount. There were little chocolate covered marshmallows in every single bite.

I also was a fan of the graham cracker ice cream. Sonic uses real ice cream – though I think the graham cracker flavor is some sort of syrup mix in. I think a flavor like this can go either way – but in fact this one was excellent. The texture was good. The flavor was distinctly graham cracker ice cream.

Overall I was a fan of the S’More Sonic Ice Cream.

While at Sonic I also tried one of the Strawberry Limeades with an ice cream mix in. I’m fairly confident that I used to drink these in Texas (and I know I like the similar drink at Dairy Queen). But for some reason this Ice Cream with Strawberry Limeade just wasn’t all that good. Frankly it was too sour – I’m not quite sure what was going on because I sampled someone else in our group’s regular Strawberry Limeade and it was great – but with the ice cream it just wasn’t very good.  Maybe it was a bad mix or maybe I just remembered incorrectly.

Overall, I would definitely give Sonic a try for ice cream. Their Sonic Blasts are very good as are their malts and milkshakes.

Everyone in my family loves the banana milkshakes at Sonic. When the kids were in grade school, we used to go on surprise “pajama runs” to Sonic after they had gotten ready for bed!

I’ve lived in Texas for many summers. Nothing beats picking up ice cream from a local sonic on a hot summer day. I agree, it sometimes is very hard to decide what kind of ice cream to order from sonic. There are many selections, which leaves you starring at the menu for a long time before deciding what you really want. I have not tried the S’more blast, but it sure does sound delicious. If you havn’t tried Sonic’s milkshakes, I would definately check that out. All flavors including chocolate, strawberry, and vanilla are all good and will never let you down. I promise.

I really enjoy a choclate sundae anywhere, but for some reason, the ice cream used at Sonic is the BEST !

They skimp on their ice cream! I am a rather small girl, but my how I do love my ice cream, and everytime I go there I am so let down by how little ice cream they put in my sundaes or banana splits. Why is the lid so darn tall yet they don’t fill it anywhere near that high? What a rip off~! I pay 3.49 for a banana split expecting the thing to atleast have 3 whole scoops of ice-cream, but instead what I get is three measley plops of ice cream, and when I ask them why there’s hardly no ice cream on there the girl simply replies, “We have to weigh them all, and they cannot exceed a certain weight.” I was like, “Okay, cool,” but what I should have said was give me my money back. Just to paint a picture here, there was such little ice cream in the banana split that by the time she handed it out the window most of the ice cream had already melted. By the way, this Sonic is located in Nicholasville, KY! Ice cream is pretty good, but you don’t get enough of it so I’d assume just not go there if they can’t fulfill my appetite. I’ll just go to the grocery and get me a whole gallon of Bluebell banana split ice-cream, which is better anyways.

I hate Sonic’s new “real” ice cream. I thought their old formula was much better and reminded me of the old time soft-serve ice cream. This new stuff is way to creamy and a wierd texture like cool whip. Bring back the old stuff!

I don’t like the ice cream now. It tastes gritty. It is not smooth and creamy like it used to be. I will choose McDonald’s, but I would rather go to sonic.

I love the Lemon pie but my question is why do they give you a straw when it is impossible to get it through it? And I swear that isnt ice cream. I have never seen ice cream that doesnt melt and doesnt come out of the cup even when turned up side down! Does anyone have the answer to what we are actually drinking? I do love them though!
